“A raised bed vegetable garden provides two important aspects to your gardening experience. It will allow any excess water to drain out faster and it allows the soil to warm up more quickly. Therefore, you may well be able to grow vegetables in a climate that normally you would not attempt.”
If you want it even hotter, use heat absorbing bricks for the walls and lay some pieces of glass over the top to trap the heat in.

“But the main reason I like using raised beds, is that you can quickly get the soil up to a level that desired for growing bumper crops instantly.   This is done by importing a good quality soil mix from a landscape supplier.   I live in the South East of Melbourne, and our soil is notoriously sandy, and requires a lot of organic matter to get it productive.”

Raised Bed Vegetable Garden Helps Poverty

I just saw this raised bed vegetable garden video and had to post about it immediately. This is perhaps the best information I have posted on the blog to date. It is very well put together and shows some children in Africa constructing a raised vegetable garden at their school.

Because of the rocky ground and monsoon weather, the raised vegetable garden is vital to the success of helping people in certain parts of Africa overcome famine and poverty.

It is the sort of video that once you finish watching it makes you want to start growing one in your own garden straight away.

P.S. Notice how much fun the process is when done as a team?

Here is another example of how a charity is educating people using a raised bed garden: -

This guide is very well put together with lots of clear photos that make the whole process very easy.

Here’s a quote from the guide and the URL:-

“I want you to know that this is the easiest thing in the world to do. If you’re even remotely comfortable with using a drill, this entire project can take under an hour. If not, it still won’t take you very long and it’ll bring you a great sense of satisfaction… especially when you see that first little hint of a tiny green tomato showing itself.”
