l want to make a raised bed for my vegetable garden. What type of wood should I use?

Is it okay to paint the wood? Do you have any suggestions?
How deep should the soil be for the plantings?
pine would be the cheapest…buy some 2×10’s and stake them …i would brush some mineral oil on them first…recoat them every year…the mineral oil is non-toxic…

Use green-treated landscape wood, 4" x 4" and I would recommend two or three high if you are putting them on a soil surface. On a concrete or brick surface, you should go at least 4 high to get good depth for the roots.

6 inches is a good starting depth. What I would do is make a 4 foot wide and however long the plank is. Then I would fill it with peat moss and plant in it. Then next year I would use what I learned this year to improve next year.
The type of wood is not that important and it would look nice if you painted it.

I used staked 1×12 treated planks for my raised beds last year and it worked great. I used a mixture of top soil and peat moss and made it about 6-8" deep. The few veggies we tried all came out great especially the pumpkins. I’ve added to it for this year.
