As an interesting experiment, I had some swiss chard growing in a raised bed which was not receiving much sun through Winter – maybe an hour or two. (We have a very mild Winter here in Sydney, Australia). I transferred some of these plants at the very end of Winter to a raised bed receiving 6-7 hours of sun per day. The plants transferred to the sunny bed have shot up beautifully whereas the ones left in the shady bed are still the same size. Yes. It is important to choose a sunny location!
